Family owned, second generation, and one of Sweden's leading wholesalers for motocross and enduro. We import from all over the world, hold the range on the shelves in Ängelholm, and supply dealers right across Europe. Then we go ride the stuff, and find out what actually holds up.

Knobby opened in 1974 as a motorcycle shop. Ten years later the shop counter came out and the shelving went in. In 1984 Knobby stopped selling one part at a time and started selling them by the pallet - a wholesaler instead of a store.

That decision still runs the place. Today Knobby Shop AB is one of Sweden's leading wholesalers for motocross and enduro accessories, still family owned and now on the second generation.

We import from all over the world. Parts arrive in Ängelholm, get checked, get shelved, and go back out to dealers across Europe. Nothing glamorous about it. It is a warehouse, a phone, and people who know what a worn shock looks like.

The bit nobody writes in a catalogue: we ride the stuff. That is how a product ends up on our shelf, and how it quietly disappears from it again.

    same family, still

We sell products that work. The rest gets sent back.

    House rule, unwritten, enforced

    • 1974Motorcycle shop. A counter, a workshop, and a lot of two-stroke.
    • 1984Wholesale. The shop becomes a distributor for motocross and enduro accessories.
    • NowSecond generation. Imports worldwide, delivers to dealers across Europe, run out of Ängelholm by the people on the wall.

    Family owned since day one

    Why we are called Knobby

    The knobbies in question

One knob, one nickname, one company name. In that order.

    Name kept. One word dropped.

    A man in San Diego

    From: San Diego, CA
    To: Ängelholm, Sweden
    Year: 1974

In 1974 Jörgen Ahlström travelled to San Diego to visit his sister. He was racing a Cheney at the time, and as it happened the Cheney importer, Knobby Shop International, sat in the same city.

There he met Alan Greenwood. Everyone called him Knobby, after the knobs on a motocross tyre.

A couple of years later Alan started a new project - a 4-stroke thumper built on a Honda XL350 - and asked Jörgen to be test rider and Scandinavian importer. They agreed that Jörgen should use the same company name back home in Sweden.

He kept "Knobby Shop" and left "International" in California.

"It did not feel like my business was that big at the time."
